This is a great, cost effective way of having a nice steak for dinner. Tancred Field Farm in Yorkshire provide us with some fantastic Lincoln Red Sandwich Steaks.

These steaks cost £1.56 and £1.17. We made some potato wedges which cost about 30p.

We also fried some onions and mushrooms which cost about 30p and added it all to a couple of ciabatta’s which cost 75p each.

So this meal cost about about £2.45 each, was simple to make and made from local and organic products.

At Millies we always aim to support local produces and bring you the best quality produce at the right price. With our new local farm meat supplier we do just that. The lovely Dean and Angela Hullah run Tancred Field Farm, where they raise pedigree cows, pigs and sheep – they even grow their own feed to ensure they know exactly what they’re eating.
We’ve been testing out their bacon, sausages and pork chops this week at home and the Sweet Chilli Sausages soon became a favourite! The Stir Fry Pork comes already cut up and can be added straight to the wok for a fantastic stir fry. We also used it to make a pork stroganoff.
Dean and Angela Hullah and our family farm at Tancred Field Farm near Whixley between York and Harrogate in North Yorkshire producing rare breed beef, pork and lamb.
We have a herd of pedigree Lincoln Red cows, a herd of pigs that include Saddleback and Large White and a flock of sheep containing, Hiberian’s and Suffolk’s.
We are very proud of the fact that we grow our own feed for our aniamls so we know that they are eating the very best quality and in turn we believe this produces the finest quality meat.
We produce mature grass fed beef supplied in boxes from our herd of rare breed Lincoln Red Cattle.
From our rare breed Saddleback and Large White pigs we supply half pigs and hand make quality traditional 75% meat sausages using natural skins in the following varities: Pork & Apple, Pork & Leek, Pork and Mustard, Red Onion and Sage, Sweet Chilli, York Ham and Pineapple, Sundried Tomato & Basil, Pork & Chive, Pork & Apricot

Still working our way through the Taylors of Harrogate coffee selection available at Millies, we are now testing out Fairtrade Organic Nicaraguan coffee:
We can’t recommend this coffee highly enough. It is grown by a small farmer’s cooperative in the Matagalpa Mountains region of Nicaragua; it has a tantalising aroma and a rich flavour with a hint of roasted hazelnuts. It tastes really delicious.
Coffee Origin: Central America
Coffee Type: Whole Bean
Roast Colour: Medium Roast
Coffee Range: Speciality Coffee Beans
In a bid to keep our coffee as fresh as possible, we have now bought a grinder for the flat and bring the whole beans back, grinding only what we need. Out trusted machine from Peter Maturi is a great entry level espresso machine for anyone looking for a great coffee machine.

Just called into Millies and grabbed some of Taylors of Harrogate World’s Best coffee beans to use in our coffee machine.
World’s Best was a blend invented during the second world war. While all commodities were in short supply, Taylors purchased a small quantity of very high-quality beans which we saved to create our World’s Best blend. The blend was so good that it lives on today. There is a high proportion of top Kenyan beans along with some excellent coffees from Central America. Medium roasted, they produce a wonderful lively flavour full of citrus fruity notes and plenty of body. It is a perfect all day coffee with an amazing aroma.

I was going to cook tonight (honest!), but then I saw our deli chef had cooked venison pie for ‘Meal of the Day’ and it looked just too good not to try! So I grabbed a couple of slices and some veg and brought it home. I know this may sound bias, but this really is one of the best pies I’ve ever had.
The venison is from our local supplier, Holme Farmed Venison in Sherburn in Elmet, North Yorkshire. As described by Holme Farm, here’s why the pie tasted so good:
At Holme Farmed Venison we believe that quality is of the utmost importance. Our deer are reared naturally, grazing on grass pastures, guaranteeing a beautifully flavoured lean and tender red meat. One of the healthiest meats available, venison is low in cholesterol and fat and high in protein. It has recently been found to be a source of Omega 3 fatty acids, along with the immunity boosting zinc and selenium.
There’s still lots of pie left, so feel free to call in and grab some for your lunch!

This is easily our favourite pudding. A “rich chocolate sponge topped with morish belgian chocolate sauce”. All I can say is it’s yummy, I love it!!

Served with Provamel Soya Custard Vanilla.
All available in store at Millies.
